Irish boxer 'viciously assaulted'

The career of Olympic medallist John Joe Nevin is reportedly hanging in the balance following a vicious assault at his Mullingar home on Saturday night.

Nevin, 25, who won silver at the 2012 London Games, sustained a broken leg in the attack, according to the Belfast Telegraph.

The incident is said to revolve around a personal dispute, with the Irish boxer currently in hospital where his condition is said to be "severe but not life-threatening".

Nevin turned professional last October, getting his career off to a winning start with a victory over Alberto Candelaria.
