Alan Hansen will reportedly leave his punditry role on Match of the Day at the end of next season.

Former Liverpool defender Alan Hansen will reportedly leave his role on BBC football highlights and analysis show Match of the Day after 20 years.

Hansen's departure is thought to have been part of a shake-up by the BBC, which included a three-year contract offer to Phil Neville that the Everton captain is said to have declined.

It is believed that Hansen has come to a mutual decision with broadcasters to leave the show at the end of the 2013-14 season, according to the Daily Mail.

Reports have claimed that the 58-year-old took a pay cut from his £1.5m wage packet when he signed a two-year contract last year.
