Paul Gascoigne's sister Lindsay has warned fans against a fake Facebook account posing as the former England international.

The 47-year-old, who has been troubled by alcohol issues for a number of years, was reportedly sanctioned under the Mental Health Act last week following a drinking binge.

Gascoigne's sister took to the social networking website to criticise the fake profile, which reportedly mocked the former footballer's drinking habits.

According to the Daily Star, Lindsay wrote: "Sad sad horrible stupid bastard making a fake profile of my brother.

"Get a life of your own instead of pretending to be someone else. Please share and report friends to get this idiot off. Thank you xxx.

"This idiot is not my brother people."

Gascoigne is believed to have been placed on an emergency three-day detox after being taken to hospital in the early hours of Friday morning last week.
