Bernard Gallacher thanks nurses for saving his life

Gallacher pays tribute to 'life-saving' nurses

Scottish golfer Bernard Gallacher has paid tribute to the nurses who saved his life after he collapsed before he was due to give an after-dinner speech three weeks ago.

The 64-year-old, who was treated at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, was released from hospital on Friday after his heart needed to be restarted three times.

"I had no warning of what was coming," The Express quotes Gallacher as saying. "People said I suddenly collapsed. They said it looked like I'd been floored by a boxer.

"Three nurses gave me immediate help. The Marcliffe hotel had a defibrillator on site which was incredibly lucky. If it hadn't been there, I wouldn't be here. These people saved my life."

His wife Lesley and daughter Kirsty, who works as a Sky Sports News presenter, were among the family members by his bedside during his time in hospital.
