Football fans would choose promotion for their team over promotion at work

Football fans pick team over job promotion

Football fans would care more about witnessing their team earn promotion than gain their own promotion at work, according to a new survey.

Capital One's research has found that the majority of supporters experience a dramatic change in mood depending on their team's result in a specific match.

It was discovered that more than a quarter of the 2,000 football fans who took part in the survey refrain from reading newspapers the day after their team lose, while supporters tend to disconnect the radio and turn off their mobile phones after a poor result.

A large number of male fans revealed that they would rather watch their club get promoted than celebrate Christmas, while hugs and alcoholic beverages appear to be the best pick-me-ups after a defeat.

The research shows that being a dedicated football fan can also cause problems as one in five admitted to having felt stressed before a game and more than a quarter claimed that they have been filled with anxiety.

The survey was conducted earlier this month prior to this weekend's Football League playoff finals at Wembley.
