Facey found guilty of conspiracy to commit bribery

Former Premier League footballer Delroy Facey has been found guilty of conspiracy to commit bribery.

The 35-year-old denied the charges, but a jury has found the former sportsman and co-defendant Moses Swaibu guilty of attempting to bribe players in a match-fixing scandal.

Birmingham Crown Court heard that businessmen offered Facey, who had short spells at Bolton Wanderers and West Bromwich Albion during his career, £15,000 to convince five players to get to Ireland.

Thousands of text messages between Facey, Swaibu and known match-fixers were shown during court proceedings.

Facey could be sentenced to 10 years in prison.
