Ex-Arsenal striker in court for broomstick incident

Former Arsenal and Everton striker Francis Jeffers has appeared at South Sefton Magistrates' Court following his arrest for brandishing a broomstick outside of his father-in-law's flat.

The 32-year-old was found outside the Merseyside flat of Albert Boden, who suffered injuries during an incident last December.

Jeffers, who is estranged from his wife Lucy, was given 12 months to keep the peace or risk a fine of £100 in court today after the forward pleaded not guilty to using threatening/abusive/insulting words or behaviour with intent to cause fear or provoke unlawful violence, according to the Daily Mail.

Jeffers is now a free agent following a brief stint with Maltese side Floriana.
