Epsom to increase security at Investec Derby over suffragette protest fears

Epsom officials are planning to increase security at this June's Investec Derby in order to prevent any protests in relation to the suffragette movement.

This summer will mark the 100th anniversary of the death of Emily Wilding Davison, who threw herself in front of a King George V-owned horse during the fight for women's rights.

"The presence of The Queen at the Derby means security is always high but it will be increased this year," a spokesman told the Daily Mail.

A plaque will be unveiled at Tattenham Corner on April 18 to mark the anniversary.
