Retired USA footballer Landon Donovan announces engagement to girlfriend

Retired USA footballer Landon Donovan has announced that he is engaged to girlfriend Hannah Bartell.

The 32-year-old, who retired at the end of the MLS season and has claimed that he is enrolling in a college, revealed the news on Facebook.

Donovan and Bartell, who works as a hotel sales executive, have been in a relationship for more than a year-and-a-half.

The sportsman wrote on Facebook: "I recently got engaged to the love of my life, Hannah. I have never been this happy and I'm excited for our future together!"

Donovan was once married to actress Bianca Kajlich, but the couple divorced in 2011.
