Donald Trump buys Open golf course

US tycoon Donald Trump has bought the exclusive Turnberry golf course in Scotland in a rumoured £35m deal.

The 67-year-old has purchased the links, which has hosted four Open Championships, but has insisted that he will not make any changes to the course unless the Royal and Ancient give the green light.

"It was an opportunity, as far as I was concerned," Trump told Golf.com. "Turnberry is considered one of the greatest courses in the world. It's a special place. It's an important place."

Despite no plans to make immediate changes, the New York City-born businessman has admitted that he may add his brand to the name of the course.

"Trump Turnberry has a nice ring to it, doesn't it?" the tycoon added. "We'll make that decision fairly soon – in a couple of days."

Trump also revealed that he has plans to build the "finest golf hotel in the world".
