Former England stopper David James is reportedly approached by the BBC to take part in this year's Strictly Come Dancing.

Former England and Liverpool keeper David James has reportedly been approached about appearing in this year's Strictly Come Dancing.

The 47-year-old is currently managing Kerala Blasters in the Indian Super League, having signed a three-month contract at the start of the year, and has yet to make a decision about whether to stay on for next season.

According to The Sun, James has been asked if he would consider participating in Strictly, which runs between September and December, and has expressed interest in taking them up on their offer.

"The Strictly casting team are really keen to sign up a former footballer this year," a show source told the newspaper. "It's been a while since we had a celebrity from the world of football and, as 2018 is a World Cup year, a footballer makes perfect sense.

"David would be a fantastic signing for us, and he is interested. The question is whether or not he will be able to balance training with his other commitments, as he is currently coaching a team in India."

Previous footballers to have taken part in the reality show include John Barnes, Robbie Savage and Peter Schmeichel.
