Danish cyclist injured by flying mattress

Danish cyclist Matti Breschel was injured after being hit by a flying mattress during the Tour of Oman.

The Team Tinkoff-Saxo rider was heading back to the team's hotel after the final stage when he was struck by the item, knocking him to the ground.

The 29-year-old told The Mirror: "After the stage, we were riding back to our hotel and on a descent when I was going 70 kilometers an hour, a mattress flew into my front wheel and brought the bike to a standstill.

"I hit the asphalt pretty hard and lost a lot of skin on my legs and the wound on my knee had to be stitched up."

The event was won by Team Sky's Chris Froome.
