CSKA Sofia goalkeeper: 'I had to borrow money from parents as club hasn't paid me'

Maksims Uvarenko, goalkeeper at cash-strapped Bulgarian club CSKA Sofia, claims that he has had to borrow money from his parents after going three months without pay.

CSKA Sofia goalkeeper Maksims Uvarenko has claimed that he has been forced to borrow money from his parents after going three months without pay.

The Bulgarian club is said to have recently asked fans for financial help after being threatened with expulsion from their country's top flight over debts.

Uvarenko, who joined CSKA from Latvian club Ventspils in January, is quoted by BBC Sport as saying: "I still haven't received any salary. I was forced to accept some cash from my parents to pay the rent.

"The lack of money is the biggest problem I've faced at CSKA. My wife and I are expecting a child and we can't afford to stay without money."

CSKA, 31-times Bulgarian champions and semi-finalists in the European Cup in 1967 and 1982, have struggled financially since being sold by owner Vasil Bozhkov in 2006.
