Channel 5 are reportedly expected to beat the BBC and secure a three-year deal to broadcast Football League highlights next season.

Channel 5 are reportedly expected to be given the television rights to show highlights of the Football League next season, taking them from the BBC.

A show dedicated to the weekend's action from the lower tiers of English football is currently shown on the BBC late on Saturday nights after Match of the Day.

However, according to The Telegraph, Channel 5 are due to seal a three-year deal, which also includes highlights from the Capital One Cup for the 2015-16 campaign.

It is believed that Channel 5 have edged ahead after offering to broadcast the highlights at 9pm on Saturdays.

Meanwhile, the BBC are in danger of losing the right to show Premier League highlights after ITV reportedly planned to challenge their bid.
