BT Sport renews Serie A rights

BT Sport announces that it has kept hold of the broadcast rights to Italy's Serie A until 2018.

BT Sport has kept hold of the rights to broadcast Serie A in the UK until the end of the 2017-18 season.

The news comes on the day that rivals Sky poached the rights to Major League Soccer from BT in a four-season deal. Sky was also thought to be circling the rights to Italy's top division after adding coverage of the Coppa Italia to its portfolio last year.

Simon Green, head of BT Sport, said: "Serie A attracts some of the best players in the world and is a fantastic, competitive league featuring some of the legendary teams of European folklore, such as Juventus, AC Milan, Inter and Roma."

The new deal will allow BT to show all 380 games per season live.
