Marcus Bent given suspended 12-month prison sentence after admitting affray

Bent handed suspended 12-month prison sentence

Former Premier League footballer Marcus Bent has been issued with a 12-month sentence suspended for two years after admitting affray and being in possession of cocaine.

The 37-year-old was reportedly tasered by police after allegedly charging at the officers with a 15-inch knife and a meat cleaver.

The police arrived at Bent's home responding to a report of a break-in on September 13 last year.

The sportsman, who pleaded guilty to the charges at Guildford Magistrates' Court in January, was handed a nine-month prison sentence for affray and three months behind bars for possession of cocaine.

According to The Mirror, the judge informed Bent in court that he must carry out 200 hours of community service and must obey a two-month curfew.

Should he breach the curfew, not turn up to community service or re-offend, Bent will immediately go to prison.

Bent has signed for 10 different clubs during his career, including Crystal Palace and Everton.
