Beckham's whiskey ad 'cleared by watchdogs'

A whiskey advert starring David Beckham has been cleared by advertising watchdogs after concerns were raised about the potential encouragement of underage drinking.

Alcohol Concern stated that Beckham's presence in the commercial for Haig Club Whisky could send the wrong message to young people due to his influence in the public eye.

However, according to the Daily Mail, the complaint has been dismissed as watchdogs believe that Beckham is no longer a role model to children.

The retired footballer has previously backed campaigns targeted at children, including the Sainsbury's Active Kids initiative and within his role as a Sky Sports ambassador.

The partnership with Haig is the first time that the 39-year-old has backed an alcoholic brand.
