Beckham: 'It's a privilege to be famous'

Former footballer David Beckham has described his fame and fortune as a "huge privilege".

The 38-year-old has amassed an empire known as 'brand Beckham' during his career, which has included various projects, including underwear ranges and fragrance lines.

The ex-midfielder, who has played for the likes of Manchester United, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain, has admitted that it is "surreal" to be noticed on a global scale.

"Whenever I go out people try to take pictures," Beckham told The Times Magazine. "I am not complaining, because it is a huge privilege to be famous and have a platform to do things that I believe in, but it can be surreal."

Beckham, who is married to former Spice Girl Victoria, retired from football at the end of last season.
