Muhammad Ali's first heavyweight championship-winning gloves on sale for £300k

Muhammad Ali's boxing gloves from his first heavyweight championship title-winning fight reportedly go on sale for around £300,000.

The boxing gloves worn by Muhammad Ali in his first heavyweight championship title-winning fight have reportedly gone up for auction for an estimated £302,000.

Ali, who was known then as Cassius Clay, beat Sonny Liston in February 1964 via a technical knockout.

The gloves stayed with the fighter's former trainer Angelo Dundee until his death in 2012, but will now be placed at the Heritage Auctions in New York.

"It is hard to imagine a more important or evocative piece of boxing memorabilia," the Daily Star quotes director of sports collectibles at Heritage Chris Ivy as saying.

"Ali is a figure that transcends boxing or America, he belongs to the entire world."

The boxing legend changed his name to Muhammad Ali a week after the victory after converting to Islam.
