Sir Ben Ainslie, Georgie Thompson announce engagement

Five-time Olympic medallist Sir Ben Ainslie has announced his engagement to former Sky Sports presenter Georgie Thompson.

The couple, who announced the news via Twitter, have been dating for just over a year following a three-year friendship.

Thompson, who previously dated fellow TV presenter Declan Donnelly for two years, wrote: "This just in... @AinslieBen and I are getting married! Couldn't be happier. Suspect the honeymoon may involve a boat..:)."

Sailor Ainslie posted an image of the couple with dog Biggles on the social networking website, along with the message: "Picture says it all. So happy to be engaged to the loveliest woman in the World. Biggles is pretty excited too!"

The couple have had to deal with a long-distance relationship as Ainslie lives in San Francisco and Thompson resides in New York.
