Retired Olympic swimmer Rebecca Adlington has announced that she and husband Harry Needs have become parents to a baby girl.

The 26-year-old, who ended her career with two Olympic gold medals and a bronze, gave birth on June 8, four days after her due date.

A statement released to Hello! magazine read: "Becky and Harry Needs are proud parents of a gorgeous baby girl born this morning and are back home resting."

Later on Twitter, Adlington wrote: ".@harryneeds and I are over the moon as we welcomed our beautiful baby girl this morning. She's doing well and we're so in love!!!"

Adlington married fellow swimmer Needs on August 31 in Staffordshire last year.
