Steven Gerrard's Instagram debut attracts more than 300,000 followers

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has attracted more than 300,000 followers within 24 hours of launching his official Instagram page.

The England midfielder decided to join the photo- and video-sharing website just one week before the start of the World Cup in Brazil.

In his first post, the 34-year-old uploaded an image of himself with Daniel Sturridge and new Liverpool teammate Rickie Lambert, who signed for the Reds on Monday.

Along with the image, Gerrard posted the message: "Hello to everyone from Miami, my first official Instagram post. Nice to share it with fellow Reds @dstudge and Rickie Lambert, I'm delighted he'll be with us next season. Also happy 122nd birthday to LFC!"

Gerrard and his England teammates are currently in Miami preparing for their opening Group D clash against Italy in Manaus on June 14.
