India fly flag at Olympic village after overturning of ban

Indian athletes will carry the national flag during the closing ceremony of the Games, after a ban on the Indian Olympic Association was lifted.

The national flag of India has been raised at the Mountain Athletes Village in Sochi, five days after a ban was lifted.

A 14-month ban was in place, preventing the Indian Olympic Association from carrying the Indian flag during the opening ceremony.

However, the International Olympic Committee opted to overturn the decision, meaning that the country can now carry the flag at next week's closing ceremony.

"I am thrilled and delighted - I don't look into the past, I only look for the future," Narayana Ramachandran, the Indian Olympic Association's new president, is quoted as saying by Times-Standard.

India have three athletes competing at the Winter Olympics.
