French security carry out controlled explosion near Stade de France

Fans are prevented from approaching the Stade de France - venue for the quarter-final tie between France and Iceland - due to a controlled explosion being carried out.

The Euro 2016 quarter-final meeting between France and Iceland faced the risk of major disruption after a controlled explosion was carried out a little over two hours before the game was due to kick off.

A suspicious vehicle near the Stade de France had to be dealt with by French security forces, forcing officials to temporarily stop supporters approaching the venue.

The explosion took place at around 5.30pm BST, with the Daily Mail reporting that police have stressed there is "nothing to worry about" after a small charge was used to open the car door and resolve the issue.

Tonight's final quarter-final tie is not likely to be affected by the security scare, which comes eight months after terrorists killed 130 people in the French capital of Paris.
