Vertonghen, Kompany stunned by Trump win

Belgium duo Jan Vertonghen and Vincent Kompany have been left baffled by the news that Donald Trump has been elected the new president of the United States.

The world learned on Wednesday that the billionaire businessman, who hosted the American version of reality TV show The Apprentice, beat Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton to the White House.

Famous faces and public figures took to social media to express their views on the vote, with footballers Vertonghen and Kompany among them.

Tottenham Hotspur defender Vertonghen tweeted: "Can't believe what I'm seeing. This is so embarrassing. Would love to speak to someone who's actually pro Trump to see what's going on in their head but I just can't find them..."

Manchester City centre-back Kompany also took to Twitter, saying: "Wtf.. Let's put all the idiots around the world in power and see what happens. Next gen reality TV. #SadWorld."

Trump will officially succeed Barack Obama in January.
