Manchester 'interested in bidding for 2023 European Games'

Manchester could bid to host the 2023 European Games, according to European Olympic Committee president Patrick Hickey.

The inaugural games come to a close in Baku tomorrow and Hickey has confirmed that representatives from Manchester have been in the Azerbaijan capital to watch things unfold.

He told BBC Sport: "The future is safe and secure. We now have four interested countries for the next edition and a waiting list for 2023. In fact, observers from Manchester came to Baku with a view to considering a bid in 2023."

There is currently no host for 2019 after the withdrawal of the Netherlands.
