Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger: 'Jack Wilshere has apologised for smoking pics'

Arsene Wenger defends Jack Wilshere over his latest 'smoking' incident, but reveals that the Arsenal midfielder has apologised.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed that Jack Wilshere has apologised after he was photographed holding a shisha pipe in a nightclub.

The England international has caused controversy on two previous occasions for smoking, but Wenger has defended the midfielder by claiming that it is down to Wilshere to "master his life".

"I talked to Jack," Wenger told reporters in this morning's press conference. "He is sorry for what happened. He is not a smoker. He had a day off the next day.

"You've been 20 as well, you need to relieve pressure. One photo, a second of your life doesn't tell the story of your life. I had some photos in Brazil and didn't even know the people around me."

Wilshere is currently working his way back from an ankle injury.
