Third IndyCar driver within a week suffers crash

A third IndyCar driver within one week has suffered a crash during practice.

Indianapolis 500 racer Ed Carpenter went airborne, hurtled into a wall and flipped over during a practice session.

Carpenter, who was left unharmed, was the third Chevrolet driver to have suffered a crash following incidents involving teammates Josef Newgarden and Helio Castroneves.

Questions have now been raised about the vehicle's new aerodynamic design.

"I definitely think we have an issue going on that we clearly didn't have in the past," Carpenter told the Indianapolis Star. "Hopefully this series will be smart and react sooner rather than later so we don't have to keep seeing things happen like this."

Drivers are preparing for the 500-mile race, which will be held on May 24.
