Marc Marquez equals Mick Doohan's record with 12th MotoGP win

MotoGP champion Marc Marquez equals Mick Doohan's record by winning his 12th race in Malaysia.

Marc Marquez secured his 12th MotoGP victory at the Sepang Circuit in Malaysia at the weekend to equal Mick Doohan's record.

The Spaniard, who won his second successive title earlier this month, has scooped 12 wins out of 17 races this season ahead of the final contest in Valencia on November 9.

"I've equalled Mick Doohan's record," Marquez told reporters. "With one race left, maybe I can beat it. If I had a bad result here the pressure in Valencia would be more, but now I am free in Valencia and I can do well for my fans and just enjoy it."

Australian Doohan set the record by winning 12 out of 15 races back in 1997.
