Nascar star Kurt Busch has been indefinitely suspended after a court ruled that he had "probably" abused his former girlfriend.
A Delaware judged said that it was likely Busch abused Patricia Driscoll by "manually strangling her" and smashing her head into a wall, in an incident in September last year.
A Nascar statement said: "Given the serious nature of the findings and conclusions made by the Commissioner of the Family Court of the State of Delaware, Nascar has indefinitely suspended driver Kurt Busch, effective immediately."
Busch won the 2004 Sprint Cup, but he will miss this season's premier event, the Daytona 500 on Sunday.
The 36-year-old is the first driver to be suspended by Nascar for domestic violence.
