British IndyCar driver Wilson in coma

British IndyCar driver Justin Wilson is in a coma after he was hit on the head by a piece of debris during a race in Pennsylvania on Sunday.

The 37-year-old, who suffered the injury when a car crashed in front of him at Pocono Raceway, is in a critical condition at the Lehigh Valley Health Network hospital.

A statement on indycar.com read: "Wilson is currently in a coma and in a critical condition while undergoing further evaluation."

Wilson, whose best IndyCar finish was ninth in 2009, drives for Andretti Autosport.
