DeBoer to coach New Jersey Devils

New Jersey Devils have announced that Peter DeBoer will coach the team next season.

DeBoer, 43, joins the Devils with three years of NHL coaching experience with the Florida Panthers.

He led the Panthers to their second-best ever season finish in 2008-2009 with a record of 41-30-11 for 93 points.

The Ontario native will be looking to rebuild the Devils following their 2010-11 season, during which they fired coach John MacLean and missed out on the play-offs for the first time since 1996.

“Peter DeBoer is an individual who I have watched coach over the past two decades at the junior, international, and professional levels," Devils CEO Lou Lamoriello said. "His teams have always been well-prepared and disciplined, while maximizing their effort each and every night.”
