British thrower Claire Harvey has withdrawn from the Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro due to a hand injury.

Harvey was due to compete in the F55 discus event, but after injuring her hand in training, she will be unable to return to fitness in time for the Games next month.

British Athletics' Paralympic head coach Paula Dunn said: "It's heartbreaking news that Claire has had to withdraw from the team so close to the Paralympic Games. She will be in everyone's thoughts in Rio and we wish her a quick recovery."

Harvey will not be replaced in the athletics team.
