Cockroft fears lack of Rio interest

Great Britain's Hannah Cockroft has expressed concern regarding a lack of public excitement about the upcoming Paralympic Games.

After underwhelming attendance levels were recorded at the Olympic Games last month, the wheelchair athlete has noted a lack of "buzz" around the upcoming Paralympics which begin next week.

"Flying out here, it felt like we were heading to any old competition, not a Paralympic Games," Cockroft told BBC Sport.

"The crowds could be empty which would be devastating but as long as the athletes put the best performances in that they can, then that's what a successful Games is."

The 24-year-old will compete in the 100m, 400m and 800m T34 events at the Games.
