David Millar wins stage 12 of the Tour de France

David Millar has won stage 12 of the Tour de France in a race that remained close right to the finish.

Millar started strongly in the 226km stage and went into the sprint finish locked in a head-to-head battle with Jean Christophe Piraud.

In a frantic finale, Millar edged his rival to become the fourth British rider to win a stage at this year's tour.

Team Sky's Bradley Wiggins remains in the overall lead as he aims to become the first Brit to win the race.
