Evans aiming for Giro, Tour success

Cadel Evans has announced that he will be competing in the Giro d'Italia in preparation for Tour de France.

The 2011 winner of le Tour has blamed a virus for his dip in performance in 2012, but hopes to bounce back in 2013.

The 36-year-old said in a statement released by the BMC team: "The team will put everything into the Tour de France.

"My situation is a bit strange because there are not many riders who perform better with two grand tours than one in their legs.

"In my situation, with the racing I missed last year, I need and I feel comfortable with this programme."

Team Sky's Sir Bradley Wiggins will also be competing in both races, but he will be focusing on the Italian race.
