Kristina Vogel: 'Team GB's Olympic cycling success is very questionable'

Kristina Vogel has described Great Britain's success in Olympic cycling as "very questionable" following their 12-medal haul at the velodrome in Rio de Janeiro.

Jason Kenny equalled Sir Chris Hoy's record of six gold medals, while his fiancee Laura Trott became Britain's most successful female Olympian by adding two more golds to her Olympic cabinet that already included two from London 2012.

Germany's Vogel, who is the reigning world champion, has questioned the Brits' success, while French sprint coach Laurent Gane has also attempted to raise eyebrows.

"They were cannon fodder when you look at the last few years," The Independent quotes Vogel as saying. "Now they come along with a [high] level. I don't want to accuse anyone of anything but it is all very questionable."

Gane said: "The recipe should be asked for from our neighbours because I don't understand. I don't know what they're doing. These are teams that do nothing extraordinary for four years and once they arrive at the Olympics they outclass the rest of the world."

Meanwhile, Team GB have surpassed their 48-medal target as they currently sit on 50 with five days of competition remaining.
