Laura Trott: 'I didn't expect fourth gold'

Great Britain's Laura Trott insists that she "did not expect" to win gold in the omnium at Rio - a triumph that saw her become the most decorated female British Olympian.

Great Britain's Laura Trott has admitted that she "did not expect" her victory in the women's omnium at the Rio Olympics.

The 24-year-old dominated the six-race event from start to finish to retain the title she won at London 2012, picking up her fourth Olympic gold medal in the process.

Trott is now the most successful British female in Olympic history, and expressed her delight after storming to her second gold of the 2016 Games.

"I can't believe it. I don't want to cry. I did not expect that at all. I am so happy that it came together and can't thank everyone at home that you don't see enough," she told BBC Sport.

"They really help me and I couldn't have done it without everyone, especially Paul Manning my coach. He puts up with me on a daily basis and today I am literally over the moon.

"You think of people like Sir Chris Hoy who have come and done it time and again, to repeat my success I can't explain I am so, so, happy."

Trott also won gold in the women's team pursuit last week.
