Great Britain smashed their own world record in qualifying for the women's team pursuit this afternoon.

The British trio of Joanna Rowsell, Laura Trott and Dani King clocked a time of 3:15.669 to finish as fastest qualifiers by a considerable distance.

Second-placed United States were nearly four seconds behind Team GB, who are heavy favourites for the team pursuit final.

Traditional rivals Australia and Canada also trailed in the distance ahead of Saturday's final stages.
