Great Britain break world record in men's team pursuit qualifier

GB quickest in team pursuit qualifier

Great Britain have topped the men's team pursuit rankings with a world-record time of 3:52.499.

The team, made up of Geraint Thomas, Steven Burke, Edward Clancy and Peter Kennaugh, reached the top of the pack with just two teams left to compete.

The Brits lost a third rider in the final lap of the track but they were close enough to the finish line to carry out their qualifier and break the record.

Australia came second with a 3:55.694, while New Zealand clinched the third-best time courtesy of a 3:57.607.

Meanwhile, Great Britain were eliminated from the women's team sprint final following an illegal change-over by Victoria Pendleton.
