Armitstead 'shocked' after cycling silver

Team GB's Lizzie Armitstead could not hide her delight after she won silver in the women's road race this afternoon.

The 23-year-old, who finished behind Netherlands' Marianne Vos, picked up Great Britain's first medal of London 2012 with her finish.

After the race, Armitstead told BBC Sport: "It's just really strange. I am a bit shocked. I am so glad I committed to that race. I am so happy.

"Marianne Vos was the one to watch and I knew that before the race. I played my tactics and thankfully, it came off."

Defending champion Nicole Cooke could only finish in the main peloton.
