Linda Villumsen claims elusive gold in Road Cycling World Championships

New Zealander Linda Villumsen wins the gold medal in the women's individual time trial at the Road Cycling World Championships.

Linda Villumsen of New Zealand has won the gold medal in the women's individual time trial at the Road Cycling World Championships in Virginia.

The Kiwi topped the podium with her time of 40:29.87 seconds, 2.54 seconds ahead of second-placed Dutchwoman Anna van der Breggen.

A late rally from Van der Breggen saw her come in ahead of defending champion Lisa Brennauer of Germany, who took home bronze.

Gold had long eluded Villumsen in the 29.9km event, with the rider having twice won silver and three times bronze in previous years.
