The route for this year's Tour of Britain will include a summit finish for the first time in the event's 10-year history.

Riders will face the climb at the end of stage six from Sidmouth to Haytor in Dartmoor.

Other features include the race's longest ever stage lasting 225km through the Lake District and a 16-kilometre time trial near Liverpool.

"This will definitely be the most challenging Tour of Britain yet," said race director Mick Bennett.

"We have several unique features and are very excited about the inclusion of our first ever summit finish. Our longest ever time trial balances the course and will ensure that for spectators at the roadside and at home on television the Tour of Britain is a thrilling battle throughout."

The eight-day race, which runs from Peebles in Scotland down through to London, starts on September 15.
