Team Sky sign Danny van Poppel

Team Sky announce that they have completed the signing of Dutch sprinter Danny van Poppel.

Team Sky manager Sir Dave Brailsford has revealed that he is "excited" to have signed sprinter Danny van Poppel.

The Dutch rider has left Trek Factory Racing to sign a two-year deal with Team Sky, and Brailsford is confident that the 22-year-old, who recently won the 12th stage of the Vuelta a Espana, can continue his development.

The 51-year-old told Team Sky's official website: "We are excited about Danny. He is only young and burst onto the scene at a very young age - he was one of the youngest riders ever to start the Tour de France.

"He won a stage of the Vuelta a Espana recently, which was a terrific victory, but we see him fitting into our classics group and we are excited to have him."

In 2013, Van Poppel competed in the Tour de France at the age of 19, making him the youngest participant since World War II.
