Queen sends Wiggins congratulations

The Queen has offered her congratulations to Bradley Wiggins following his Tour de France win on Sunday.

Wiggins became the first British winner in the 99-year history of the event when he finished three minutes and 21 seconds ahead of teammate Chris Froome after the final stage.

The 32-year-old rider has been the subject of much praise since and Her Majesty became the latest to send her congratulations yesterday.

The statement read: "I send you my warmest congratulations on becoming the first British cyclist ever to win the Tour de France.

"Your historic achievement of claiming overall victory in this prestigious event is a great testament to the efforts of you and your teammates."

Wiggins's attention now turns to the Olympic Games, with the road race beginning this Sunday following Friday's opening ceremony.
