Chris Froome withdraws from Vuelta a Espana due to broken foot

Chris Froome pulls out of the Vuelta a Espana after fracturing a bone in his foot on Wednesday's 11th stage.

Tour de France champion Chris Froome has been forced to pull out of the Vuelta a Espana after breaking a bone in his foot.

The Team Sky rider sustained the injury early in yesterday's 11th stage and confirmed this morning that he would not be starting the 12th stage.

"Scans this morning confirm fractured navicular. End of the Vuelta for me 😔" the Kenyan-born Brit wrote on Twitter.

Froome was aiming to become the third rider in history to win the Tour and Vuelta in the same year.
