Cavendish records Tirreno-Adriatico victory

Mark Cavendish has won the second stage of the Tirreno-Adriatico.

The world champion beat Spain's Oscar Freire and American Tyler Farrar in the final sprint to claim his fourth victory of the season.

Team Sky rider Cavendish recorded a time of 6 hours, 32 minutes and 32 seconds across the 230km leg from San Vincenzo to Indicatore.

Cavendish's former HTC-Highroad teammate Matt Goss maintains an overall lead in the Italian race.

The third leg commences on Friday, taking the riders from Indicatore to Terni.
