Sir Dave Brailsford: 'UCI need to deliver in fight against doping'

Team Sky boss Sir Dave Brailsford suggests that the UCI need to do more following the news that Astana were given a licence to compete, despite five failed drug tests.

Team Sky boss Sir Dave Brailsford has suggested that new president of the International Cycling Union (UCI) Brian Cookson needs to have a tougher stance on doping in the sport.

Concerns were raised when Vincenzo Nibali's Astana team were given a licence to compete, despite failing five drug tests.

"The UCI governs this sport, so they need to deliver," BBC Sport quotes Brailsford as saying. "Great leaders don't find excuses why they can't do something.

"Sometimes you've got to get over obstacles and find ways of doing things to get to a new place. If you're in charge, you have to have rules and the leadership skills to deliver a credible sport."

Nibali took the Tour de France title from Team Sky's Chris Froome last year.
