Armitstead wants 'no regrets' after road race

Lizzie Armitstead has revealed that she intends to complete the World Championship road race in Virginia with 'no regrets'

Armitstead finished in seventh place last year after losing out in a sprint finish, but the British rider has indicated that she does not fear attempting an early break-away in an effort to secure gold.

The 26-year-old is quoted by Sky Sports News as saying: "I would just be so happy [to win]. It would be an absolute dream come true. It's what I work towards every day.

"I would have attacked the climb earlier [last year]. At least then I could have gone home without any regrets. I don't want to finish the race with regrets. If I finish with an empty tank, then I'm happy."

Earlier this week, Armitstead's Boels-Dolmans team won silver in the women's team event.
