Cycling facing Olympic axe after Lance Armstrong confession

Cycling facing Olympic axe?

Cycling could be axed from the Olympics if Lance Armstrong's admission to doping implicates the sport's governing body.

According to Reuters, the International Cycling Union (UCI) could be found to have covered up a widespread doping scheme.

The news agency quotes International Olympic Committee (IOC) member Dick Pound as saying: "The only way it is going to clean up is if all these people say 'hey, we're no longer in the Olympics and that's where we want to be so let's earn our way back into it.'"

American talkshow host Oprah Winfrey confirmed earlier today that Armstrong did confess to cheating in an interview that will air on Thursday night.

You will be able to follow live coverage of the big interview right here on Sports Mole from around 2am UK time Friday morning.
